CONNECTIONS

MAY, 2010

Here I am on my 74th birthday and I can’t believe that I haven’t made a posting since last year. You know that old saying, “Time flies when you are having a good time”, well I have been having a good time.

One of my biggest thrills was publishing my book CHANGING BEAD BY BEAD: SEEING LIFE AS A STRAND OF BEADS. This is my most satisfying book thus far but who knows what the future holds. It was finished just in time to take to Australia for the Parliament.

My time at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Melbourne Australia was interesting and a joy. I taught and exhibited. My class was filled to overflowing. I prepared for 50 participants and we ran out of bead packets and seats. People shared their beads and many sat on the floor. We laughed and prayed and everyone made a personal prayer strand. The beads have given me so very many gifts. The Sacred Wheel of Peace was chosen as a gift to take to the Outback as a gift to the Aboriginal elders, I am truly humbled by the travels of the wheel. I had breakfast with the Dali Lama (and 400 others) before I left. During my last wander around Melbourne I got caught in the rain and when I ran into a mall I found a gallery that had Aboriginal Beads, they are amazing. I had been looking all over Melbourne I had no luck. I wasn’t pleased with the rain but if the sun had been shining I never would have gone into that mall. Someone wrote this book THERE ARE NO MISTAKES.

I traveled to Java to visit with family and had the honor of being the elder in a community of Sufis. All of the kids came over and gave me a blessing before we sat down to share a meal. It was really great. I then traveled to Bali to visit friends. I got there just in time to go with the family to the sea and offer prayers to keep the island safe from evil that comes from the sea. We shared a meal after our prayers. I was reminded that I was receiving communion with all of these wonderful people. I then flew home and shared a Christmas meal with my family and my spiritual community. A wonderful end to a wonderful year.

2010

January had me in New York to meet with my new literary agent. We are working on selling CHANGING BEAD BY BEAD to what I call a real publisher. I self published so I could have the book for Australia.

February found me in San Diego at the Episcopal Diocesan Convention. It was a lovely ride down I had the opportunity to see spring arriving in the Central Valley.

March was amazing in many ways. I flew into New Orleans and then took the Greyhound Bus to Mobile for the Women Speak conference. I walked into the lobby to be greeted by women from Israel I had worked with over a year ago. It was a happy reunion and they showed me the Sacred Wheel hanging off of their purses. The wheel gets to see the world; it visits the mosques, synagogues and churches. I visited with friends and rode the bus back to New Orleans. The hotel found me a wonderful gentleman from the 9th ward who would take me to see both the hope and the devastation of Katrina. I had the opportunity to hear his personal stories and those of his community. I came away humbled by the courage of the people.

April was a busy month I traveled to RANCHO LA PUERTA to teach and relax with my daughter. We had a wonderful time exercising, meditating, eating wonderful food and playing Bingo. I treasure the time I get to spend with my daughter. The end of the month found me at Camp Allen, outside of Huston, TX, with the Episcopal Medical Trust. I always learn so much when I teach and some people call this a job. I left Camp Allen and drove to Austin to visit friends and do a workshop for AWE (Accelerating Women Entrepreneurs) board of directors. I was then invited to do mini workshops for a woman’s gathering that Saturday. I again had the opportunity to listen to amazing women tell their stories. The beads have given me more gifts then I ever could have imagined when I placed that first bead onto a string.

Getting back to my birthday-the gift I gave my self was making room in my garden for a raised bed vegetable garden. It is so beautiful. I planted peppers, chard, eggplant, beans and much more. I will be able to share my harvest in a few months.

BLESSINGS TILL THE NEXT TIME
